Bear Story

I'll kick this theme off with a story. In the Lorena Province of Afghanistan in 2001, or thereabouts, a toddler belonging to a nomadic tribe wandered off from his tent and was missing for three days. He was eventually found, safe and well, in the hills miles away, in the cave of a she-bear. The bear was curled protectively around the child and had apparently been nursing him. He was taken home to his relieved parents; no record seems to exist however for what happened to the bear. One likes to hope for the best.

The Morrígan

The Morrígan was the Celtic goddess of war, life and death. A shape-shifter, she could appear in many different forms including a young woman, a crone, a child, or as a trio of sisters called Bodh, Macha and The Morrígan. As a war goddess she would appear in the form of a crow to warriors in battle and egg them on to great feats. It didn't really matter what side they were on; it would seem that she just liked a good fight. A member of the magical race the Tuatha Dé Danann, she is part of the Ulster cycle of Irish legends and was a pretty badass lady. Or possibly still is...

Fairytales

In one of my early primary school readers there was a story called The Hungry Grass, which was about a fella who angered the fairies somehow - not hard to do in the old days - and as punishment they magicked the grass around his house so every time he set foot outside he instantly became ravenously hungry, and had to run back inside and eat. For some reason this story made an impression on me, although I'm not sure how it ended. I think he made some reparations and had the curse lifted in the end.

In the Night Garden

This is an offshoot from my freaks submission of a few months back. I got a bit obsessed with drawing three-headed children and babies for a couple of days, so this is an adaptation of one of them. I think they look pretty happy, considering.

Harry's Harbour Bizarre

Got a bit if a Victorian buzz going at the moment, so thought I'd run with it since it suits the theme, and throw in a Tom Waits tribute into the bargain. Roll up, roll up...

Gorgon the Guinea Pig

Not sure exactly what chain of thought let to this. I was thinking of mythical creatures and Medusa came to mind, then I somehow ended up looking at long-haired guinea pigs, and one thing led to another.
