Merry Xmas

Been nice working with everyone during my first few months at Boulder, but I'm looking forward to going into a netflix induced coma over the holidays.

(I did 2 versions cuz I'm not sure which I prefer)

Christmas Card Design

I thought I'd make the company itself into a character. I also like the idea of a big boulder golem being innocent and wanting to give gifts to the local wildlife despite its exterior

This piece was created by Joshua Smyth

Fish you a Merry Christmas

These seafaring cats appear in my work every now and again (don't know why). Anyway, here they are braving the elements to celebrate xmas.

Christmas Card Competition 2017

Hello people of Boulder,

It's been a while since the last Boulder media artblog competition, but we thought we'd try and end the year on a high by announcing an in-house artblog challenge to design Boulder Media a Christmas card.

Artwork can be in whatever medium you like; drawn, painted, digital, photograph, sculpture, collage.
Feel free to add a festive greeting to your design If you wish.

The deadline for submissions will be the 13th of December with the winner, runner up and 3rd place entries receiving a prize.

Finally.....

For those of you who haven't joined the Boulder media artblog but would like to please provide Gillian Comerford  or myself with your personnel email address (not your work one). You will need to be a member of the blog so that you can upload your image.

Our goal for next year is to keep the blog running with a new theme announced  on a  monthly basis.

Thanks for reading and happy drawing!!!

Some pretty hip gangsters..

Watch out.. they're spreading!

More thugs than gangsters - and they mostly got their arses whoopped - but..
The idea was far more elaborate.. I ran out of time too. I just hope most of the people recognize them!

This repentant gangster jumped to his death, rosary beads in hand. I was going to do a couple more shots for this scene to flesh out the story for this guy, but I ran out of time :P

Thank you for extending the deadline! I made this one yesterday during a 3 hours bus ride 🙂

Piotr Jabłoński

I was inspired by Piotr Jabłoński. The man is the art equivalent of the Terminator. Tireless, merciless, unstoppable. He uses de-saturated colour palettes with splashes of intense colour, and limits his value range to create some really subtle paintings.

I started this on Sunday evening. I don't know what the hell it is to be honest hahaha

But I hope it seems Jabłoński-ish.

Alphonse Marie Mucha

One hour ago I remembered that tomorrow is the deadline for this month's theme. Here's my very, very quick tribute to Mucha, the first artist that I have seen in my childhood. My mother painted on glass a copy of the painting that inspired this little drawing.

Ridley Scott

The visuals in his films are great but he's also a great drawer and does a lot of storyboard panels. I'm trying to capture the style of them here.

Rebecca and Steven Sugar

I've a lot of love for Rebecca Sugar, who built a wonderful show based on her brother, Steven! Said Steven is the lead background designer on the show, and his stuff is phenomenal! Super inspiring!

X-Men: The Animated Series

Got inspired by Joe Madureira, Carlos Pacheco, Stuart Immonen, and  X-Men: The Animated Series of course!

Alphonse Mucha and Ray Harryhausen

Georgia O'Keefe

One of my favourite artists is Georgia O'Keefe, I love her use of colour and how she paints landscapes and flowers. She has always been a real inspiration to my work.

Welcome Back Bouldermedia Artblog-New Theme!!!!

Hi Everyone,

A huge welcome back and an even bigger welcome to some new members of the Bouldermedia Artblog. I am delighted to announce that the Artblog is back up and running after a few little changes.

The rules are basically the same:
  • One theme running for roughly one month.
  • Themes are to be stuck to as near as possible.
  • Any medium will be accepted.
  • Keep it clean, this is a professional Artblog!
  • You can post as many times as you wish.
  • All submissions are to be done in your own time and you are not under any obligation to submit, this is all a bit of fun, so don't put yourself under any unnecessary pressure.

There will be an inhouse vote done in Boulder at the end of the month and the winner will receive a prize for their work!!! This is a chance for Boulder creatives to showcase some of their personal work.

So without further adu, let's be having the first Artblog theme:
  • Artists/Artist who inspire me
Good Luck and I cannot wait to see what you guys post over the next month.

Gill.
